20 Fall Essentials #2: Felt Hat

You know those super large, floppy and straw wide-brimmed hats you obsessed over this past summer? Trade them for a felt hat instead this upcoming fall. Even if you think a 70s-inspired felt hat isn’t your cup of tea, you might want to rethink that! This classic style with a wide brim will give any fall outfit an extra punch and will even help disguise a bad hair day to looking like ultimate chic perfection. You can still sport a floppy style, just make sure it’s not too wide and the key is the fabric – felt is so lightweight, comfortable, warm, and looks great with just about everything. I’m actually designing and making one this week for my clothing construction class – I’d love to post a tutorial if anyone is interested!

Make sure that whichever hat you decide to settle with, that the wide brim doesn’t get into your eyes. Positioning is key as you don’t want the brim to look messy and complicated – rather, it should lightly frame your head and face. I like pairing mine with flared denim bottoms to give an even greater seventies vibe, or for a fun and flirty look, match it with a midi-skirt like I did below – a piece that’s coming up next in my fall essentials list! I love earthy tones when matching them with contrasting deep hues, like burgundies and plums, forest greens and blues, and blood orange for an instant pop.

30 Day Fall Essential #2: Felt Hat by danah featuring leather bracelets

I was hoping this (slightly) gloomy weather wouldn’t make people stay at home, but shop instead – hello, Labor Day sales, people (I’m on my break at work right now, come stop by Betsey at Tyson’s!) On a super great note, yesterday I was officially appointed as the Social Media Person at the Betsey Johnson boutique I work at. This means that I will be in charge of bringing you all the latest in our upcoming sales and events as well as sharing the new collections and pieces that come in, and hopefully styling some exciting looks to give you an idea on how to wear Betsey’s garments and accessories! If you have any suggestions, questions, or comments, please don’t hesitate to share them with me! If you haven’t ‘liked’ our Facebook page yet, come join now to stay updated, especially if you reside near the DMV.

I’m really grateful to be chosen for this position and I can’t wait to see what I’ll be sharing with you all (I like how I’m overly excited to share something that you should be more excited about…) Speaking of updates, we should be getting in a new package of the fall jewelry any day now – I cannot wait! If you’ve seen the new line at Betsey, you’ll know it’s filled with deep reds, purples, and lots of animal print – translate that into some pretty jewels… now picture it… then come and visit us soon to get yourself a piece or two or ten… (:

Stay tuned for the next fall must-have to add to your shopping list – a midi-skirt (shown in the look above) If you’ve been keeping up with my blog, I want to throw a huge thanks and love to you since I’ve been – in the most humble way possible – doing so fantastic lately in terms of recognition, which makes me so happy and more motivated to continue working on my posts thoroughly. If you’re a newbie, stick around – you won’t be disappointed! Have a lovely day!

  2. great tips, hats are often seen as quite hard to make look good on ordinary occasions; love the boots in the above look too:)

  3. Cheryl: Thank you! I hope I do a great job – I'm so excited to have the position. And that's so great!! I love when fashion does that – you try something on you'd normally think would look awful but before you know it… you look amazing!! Let me know where you get your hat!

Elly: I'm glad you think so! I love those boots too – I have been wanting low bootie oxfords for a long time now and that cognac color is so nice.
