As odd and whimsical Alexander Wang’s pre-fall 2012 collection may have appeared, the results were nothing but chic. Alexander Wang’s playful take on sporty and menswear-inspired looks is back for next fall. Starting with the idea of “tromp l’oeil, something quite classic but less in a whimsical way and more the idea of deceptive textures and patterns”, Wang explains his collection to still focus on strict tailoring and wearable pieces. Thus, the season’s pencil skirts, structured jackets, and cropped trousers are adorned with cleverly tangible details including peekaboo pleats, mesh knits “printed” with geometric burnouts, and fine wools coated with a suede-like metallic. Accessories even included a clutch in the form of a jumbo eyeglass case and a miniature version of the Rocco bag called the “Rocky”. Furthermore, mesh booties were designed to look like old-fashioned panty-pose, which I’m particularly excited about as transparent pieces are coming back into fashion (which was common back in the Mod movement)!
Less “street” than his latest runway show, the vests, pencil skirts, and pants gives us working girls a creative way to dress for the office. Here are my favorite looks from the show:
