Valentino + Red Valentino Resort 2016

After we saw a grungy Red Valentino collection last season, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli were enthusiastic about going back to Red Valentino’s cheery roots. As Valentino Garavani founded his label in Rome in 1959, it was natural for Chiuri and Piccioli’s new Resort collection to be filled with mod-inspired looks, from A-line mini-dresses to boyish touches on feminine dresses. Rainbows, strawberries, cherries, musical notes, and even little bumblebees adorned the looks. The collection is truly made for the sweetest and most cheerful of girls.

For the Valentino collection, impeccable embroidery and beadwork were showcased throughout. Detailing was more in a folk manner rather than being vivacious, but this isn’t to say Chiuri and Piccioli held back on any single facet of the designs. Shown was a long black net dress stitched all over in the tiniest of beads, while flower embellishments adorned the most delicate of lace. The workmanship is that of couture, but the pieces are definitely meant to be worn every day.
