Happy 5th Birthday Panache Offblast!

I can’t believe it’s been 5 years since I wrote my first post on Panache Offblast. I remember it like it was yesterday: I was sitting in Brian’s basement and we were discussing my love for both writing and fashion, trying to figure out what to do with both! Despite my nerves, fear of failure and having no idea what I’ll write about, I figured, “why not?” to starting a fashion blog, and so I did. If you haven’t read my ‘About‘ section, read on to learn how I came up with the name Panache Offblast as well as how and why I started my blog.

It took hours to come up with the name. I didn’t want my brand to be titled something generic, but I still wanted it to have a stylish flair. Brian and I were sharing some laughs while watching the hilarious music video for “Elektronik Supersonik” by comedy sensation Zlad!. The entire song is filled with backwards lyrics and odd vocabulary, and in the middle of it, he shouts “OFFBLAST!” after a count down, and I just lost it. I’m not sure why I thought that was THE funniest thing I’ve ever heard, but I suppose having a dry and cheesy sense of humor helps. I knew I had to include ‘Offblast‘ somewhere in the title of my blog, so I just needed a fashion-focused term to go along with it. After more hours of contemplating, I decided on the word ‘Panache‘ simply because I liked the way it sounded with ‘Offblast‘.

My blog’s title was then born: Panache Offblast to blast off with style! I wanted a slogan to fit the title as well, so I came up with “Fashion Your Seatbelts” (again with the puns and humor, I can’t help it). My main goal with Panache Offblast has been to educate and inspire through my fashion writing, including style how-to’s, fashion history lessons, trend reports/news, and other miscellaneous inspirational posts.

At the time, I only followed two fashion bloggers, Rumi Neely of Fashion Toast and Tavi Gevinson of Style Rookie. Neither of them were nearly as big as they are today, among with other notable fashion bloggers, but it just shows that with hard work and persistence, you really can succeed. I do regret not believing in my blog at some points (and taking a few hiatuses because of it), especially looking at today and knowing that I haven’t reached my goals throughout the past 5 years. I’m really aiming for everything to turn around this year and moving forward, and that Panache Offblast can become a full-time, successful venture for me. This isn’t to say that I do this for success; but fashion and writing truly are my favorite constants, and I can’t imagine anything else that brings me so much happiness.

A HUGE THANK YOU you to everyone who has believed in me even before I started my blog and who has stuck around until today. An extra special thank you to Brian who consistently pushes me and wants to see me grow and do amazing things. Oh and I’m sure you’ve noticed my redesign by now, and that’s all thanks to my incredibly talented and wonderful best friend, Jin. I’m SO excited to reveal my new banner, signature, and overall theme!
