Where I live, this summer-to-fall season is terribly confusing when it comes to my wardrobe. It’s definitely too early to head into complete fall-mode, but with the random rainy days and (thankfully) cool nights, you can definitely add an extra layer atop or underneath your summer pieces. So what’s a girl to do in times like these where the weather has some major mood changes?! Take a look at the outfits I’ve put together below that display the perfect between summer and fall looks, and find some inspiration for how to maintain your carefree summer vibe while staying cool and comfy.
Leather mini-skirts are usually a bit too warm for summer, but too chilly for winter. That leaves you with the perfect chic outfit for this awkward in-between season! I love combining neutral hues like taupe and camel – it gives your overall look a boost, whereas a single-colored neutral-toned outfit would simply be sad and dragged down. Carry a statement purse and finish off your look with metallic accessories and pretty flats!
I really love how functional this look is, especially if you’re a super busy-bee like I am! The denim shirt dress and combat boots means you can casually stroll the streets or run from these flash floods at the drop of a hat! Complete your edgy look with vintage-looking silver accessories and add a pair of striped socks to peep above your ankle booties for some extra flair and to tone down the edge, if need be.
This fall is all about mixing prints and patterns, including polka dots, stripes, and tartan – literally three of my favorites prints ever! To achieve the look before fall arrives, wear a printed dress like this polka-dot swing dress and pair it with subtly printed bow tights, classic sandal pumps, and a flirty, lady-like handbag. To toughen the look, add a leather or utility jacket in a bold, rich color like crimson red which is all the ‘rouge’ for fall, or a seafoam green to still keep that feminine flair.
This fall is all about that seventies flair, as I’ve previously mentioned how to wear the trend for the upcoming season. For an in-between look, pair your new flared jeans with a sleeveless ruffle-bow blouse and finish off the look with a floppy hat, structured satchel and boho-chic accessories. Don’t forget your platform pumps – suede is a great transition from summer to fall.
